Dear Editor,
While the Guyana Police Force (GPF) is hell bent on reducing ordinary criminal activity, from all appearances a blind eye is being turned to the hi-tech banditry we are experiencing in this country.
Everyday, the administration tries to insult our intelligence with some flimsy excuses, when it comes to explaining the wielding and dealings in high office.
Take the case of the sale of state properties. Government seem to have been caught in a bind since they continue to offer up the most blatant cover-ups for their pilfering of the meager resources of this country.
One does not have to be a Guyana scholar to see through the glaring case of hi-tech robbery with regards to the sale of the Duke Street, Kingston, property.
Who do they think they are fooling?
If the building was awarded to the highest bidder then it stands to reason that the next highest bidder would be considered.
Not so with this administration. The award to the highest bidder might have been a façade to make us believe that the tendering process for the sale of the property was above board.
Then came the bombshell announcement following the withdrawal of the highest bidder.
Government sought to explain that there was no automatic right to the second highest bidder to be sold the property.
I am no Guyana scholar, but why then should I be involved in a bidding process when I know that I have no guarantees?
This property is not owned by the Government of Guyana, it belongs to the state, meaning you, me and everyone who is Guyanese.
If this is not hi-tech banditry then what is?
We stand to lose far more from white collar crimes than the ordinary bandits on the street.
Michael Anthony
