Kildonan Village emerged champions of the Corentyne leg of the Ministry of Culture Youth and Sport Inter-Block football competition.
Kildonan played unbeaten to end of the five-team competition with a total of 12 points. Liverpool Village placed second with one loss to Kildonan. The other teams that participated in the competition were Eversham, Rose Hall Town and No. 51 Village.
The competition which was played on a round robin basis saw matches being played over a five week period. All the games were played on Sundays at the Port Mourant Community Centre ground.
At the presentation ceremony which was held last Sunday at the Port Mourant ground the winning teams were presented with their trophies by Parliamentary Secretary Ministry Culture Youth and Sports Steve Ninvalle. Most valuable player Adriel Parks also of the Kildonan team received a pair football boots from Mr. Ninvalle.
The competition was coordinated by Vibert Garrett.
Both Mr. Ninvalle and Mr. Garrett congratulated the winning team and the others for participating. They were high in praise for the discipline shown by participating teams.
Mr. Ninvalle said that he is encouraged by the participation and promised a lot more activities for the area in the near future.
Mr. Garrett speaking on behalf of the teams thanked the Parliamentary Secretary for his foresight and remembering the Corentyne area, in what he termed ‘a timely gesture’.
