$40 leads to vendor’s death

A 24-year-old clothes vendor died at the Georgetown Public Hospital at around 15:30 hrs yesterday, after he was stabbed in the buttocks during a brawl with another vendor at the Stabroek Market Bazaar.
Xuan Husler, of Lot 157 Waini Street, Meadowbrook Drive, collapsed at the scene bleeding profusely. He succumbed shortly after at the GPHC’s Accident and Emergency Unit.
The suspect, who is also a vendor, surrendered at the Brickdam Police Station.
Eyewitnesses told Kaieteur News that the two men were plying their trade at separate sections of the bazaar when Husler went to the other vendor and asked to borrow $40. However, the other vendor refused to lend Husler the money and told him to remove from in front of his stall. Kaieteur News was told that an argument ensued during which both men began to shove each other.
Eyewitnesses alleged that Husler left the scene but returned with a long knife strapped to his waist.
However, before he could draw his weapon, the other vendor drew a knife and stabbed Husler in the region of the buttocks.
The wounded man, who was bleeding profusely, fled the scene, but collapsed shortly after. He was still alive when a friend rushed him to the GPHC. Hospital sources told Kaieteur News that Husler appeared to be disoriented and was bleeding heavily when he arrived.
He succumbed shortly after. According to police sources, the suspect, with the alleged murder weapon still in his possession, went straight to the Brickdam Police Station.
He reportedly told a rank that he had stabbed another man and he thought that the victim was dead.
Husler’s relatives said that he had been vending at the Stabroek Market for several years. He is survived by his mother and four siblings.
