At press time, rescuers had still not succeeded in removing the body from the wreck. Yaw was among six family members who were returning from his sister’s funeral in Georgetown when disaster struck.
The injured child was identified as the dead man’s five-year-old nephew, Akeem Hinds, also of Lot 79 First Alley, Wismar.
He is being treated at the Mackenzie Hospital.

A third brother, 70-year-old Vibert Yaw, of Victory Valley, Wismar, reportedly escaped unhurt.
According to reports, the family members were going downhill while heading to Linden when an approaching truck drove into their path.
The driver, Wendell Yaw, reportedly swerved to avoid a collision and careened off the roadway.
At the time of the accident, Aubrey Barrington-Yaw was sitting in the front seat with his five-year-old nephew in his lap. Mr. Yaw’s wife told Kaieteur News that she was asleep and had no idea what had happened.
