The Promenade Gardens, Carmichael and Middle Streets, will come alive as a fashion centre from 19:00hrs this evening when the second annual Genesis Fashion Rhythm is staged.
There, the creations of nine local designers will be on display as a prelude to the upcoming Accolade- the music awards of Guyana.
The awards, billed for staging in November at the National Cultural Centre, celebrate the development of the local music industry by the many stakeholders.
Riah Austin, the producer of tonight’s event for Arrow Head promotions group, said, “This year we will be showcasing aspects of the fashion industry and target fashion forward locals to boost sales of locally produced clothing that could be worn at the Accolade”.
An entirely local showcase will feature designs from Olympia Small-Sonaram, Shaundell Burch-Smith, Rhonda Dunbar, the Telford sisters, Keisha Edwards, Lori-Ann Jacobs, Vasti Harlequin, Carlos ” Lucky B’ Williams and suits from Herman and sons.
About forty models are expected to traverse the three dimensional catwalks built around the bandstand.
This evening’s proceedings will not only be about fashion as the event’s offerings will include performances from local artistes, including rapper Gialiani, Soca queen Shelly G and budding female vocalist Teneicia De Freitas.
Genesis promises to be even more sensational than the inaugural showcase as it will feature a selection of new faces of enviously attractive male and female models as well as several veterans as Guyana’s one-of-a-kind star studded fashion event unfolds under the moonlight.
The models include ‘Rubber waist’ Jumo Primo, Gospel artiste Trinicia Esseboom, Soca sensation Adrian Dutchin, the versatile Timeka Marshall, veteran Charmaine Blackman, Road March queen Melissa ‘Vanilla’ Roberts, Soca sensation Michelle ‘Big Red’ King, JB, Entertainers Rawle Ferguson and Kerwyn Bollers, Crooner Ossie Nedd, B52, Passion, rising star Jessica Xavier, Christ-like Soldiers and Tiffany Isaacs.
The participation of celebrity entertainers in a fashion event has a unique fascination as they demonstrate bravery and versatility, switching role from musical stage performances to modeling on the catwalk.
The show will exemplify partnership as it recognises the symbiotic relationship between business and entertainment; highlight collaboration and the fusion of fashion and music.
Austin said too that the Arrowhead Promotions will live up to the expectations of quality by confident designers and music professionals. (Jamal Scott and Mondale Smith)
