‘Starving’ chain snatcher gets two years’ free lodging and board

On Saturday, September 5, Sean Anthony, 28, of Fourth Avenue, Bartica, snatched a gold chain valued at $60,000 from Vanilla Thomas who was walking along King Street, Georgetown.
The woman immediately raised an alarm and the culprit who was making his escape was captured by a police rank. The chain was also retrieved from him.
He was then read his rights and also scheduled a date to appear in court.
Appearing before acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, the accused pleaded guilty. He then offered an explanation to the charges of robbery with violence.
He stated that he was persuaded by a conductor to steal the lady’s chain.
The accused went on to say that the conductor said, “You betta snatch the chain if you ain’t want sleep on the road and starve tonight. “So I did what I did magistrate,” the accused said.
The magistrate sentenced the defendant to two years in prison and assured him that he’s not going to starve in prison.
