With the Mavado and Friends Concert concluded, all eyes are now on the Sizzla Kalonji and Friends show carded for September 26 at the National Park.
Be it reggae, lovers’ rock, or dancehall, local music lovers are promised a night to remember where conscious vibes and lyrics for lovers and ladies will fill the air through Jamaican artistes the likes of Sizzla Kalonji and Christopher Martin.
Seven Star Entertainment Promotions— a new promotions group with objectives to add their bit to the local international entertainment offerings – is managing the event.
Registered as an events promotion business headed by US-based Guyanese Nigel Harding, the promotions group includes Collis Butts, a local technician, and Marlon Griffith, a professional sound system and events DJ.
Group Public Relations Officer, Stan Gouveia, said Christopher Martin – the Digicel Rising Stars title holder for 2005 – has been a recent addition to the show that is billed to appeal to the ladies.
He explained that Martin’s soulful crooning set to reggae beats has won him the hearts of ladies wherever he performs and noted that “Christopher is promising the same for his Guyana fans.”
“The ability to spread music, that inspires, motivates and increase the existence of love and friendship is like none other,” he says. Martin and Sizzla Kalonji and the Firehouse Crew Band touch down in Guyana tomorrow for a slew of public appearances before hitting the stage.
Gouveia said Sizzla Kalonji was selected as the group’s first venture because he is one of the most prolific leaders of the conscious reggae/dancehall movement and has been highly anticipated in Guyana for some time now. “Guyana needs as much positive vibes as possible and Sizzla is as conscious as it gets,” he added.
Songs like ‘Praise Ye Jah’, ‘Black Woman & Child’, ‘Thank You Mama’, ‘Like Mountain’, are only a few of the vibes expected to fill the air at and “We believe that Guyanese will be given their money’s worth with his performance in a positive way.” Gouveia said.
The Kashif and Shanghai Organisation is handling security while Travelers Company is taking care of the stage, lights and sound. The many sponsors include Ansa McAl Trading, National Communications Network Inc., Giftland OfficeMax and White Castle Fish Shop.
Tickets for the show went on sale from Tuesday last at Nigel’s Supermarket, James’ Texaco – Mandela Avenue, Exclusive Styles, White Castle Fish Shop, Matt’s Record Bar, Swiss House Cambio, Silicone Valley and Showtime Taxi Service.
