Forty-seven year-old Chateram Singh called Trevon of 26 Vryheid’s Lust Public Road, East Coast Demerara, succumbed almost five-and-a-half hours after he was struck down by a motorcycle on the main East Coast Demerara Highway, yesterday.
The accident occurred around 11:30 hours and Singh was pronounced dead just before 17:00 hours at the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was receiving treatment.
According to Rajdai James Lalam, a cousin of the dead man, Singh was crossing the road outside his home when a motorcycle being ridden at a rapid rate collided with him.
He was rendered unconscious and a police patrol vehicle which was in the vicinity transported him to the hospital.
The motorcyclist who was also taken to the Georgetown Hospital, disappeared after receiving treatment.
Police have launched a manhunt for him and are monitoring his home village of Victoria, East Coast Demerara.
