The Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC) of Meten – Meer – Zorg (MMZ), West Coast Demerara has finally commenced repairs on the MMZ school bridge.
This newspaper had reported on September 4, 2009 of the unsafe conditions of the structure, which parents, teachers and children have to use on a daily basis to access the MMZ primary school.
Yesterday, residents reported to this newspaper that repairs have finally commenced on the bridge, which they noted is a welcome development.
Kaieteur News had observed that the structure was in a deplorable condition, which made it rather difficult for vehicles to traverse. Parents informed this newspaper that it is the main bridge that leads into the school, and they found it to be in an unsafe condition for their children to use.
It was noted that many complaints were made to the NDC, which reports directly to the Regional Democratic Council (RDC) Region 3, but nothing was done to rectify the situation, until after the highlighting of the issue.
Regional Chairman of Region 3, Julius Faerber had told this publication that his department indeed received complaints about the condition of the bridge and he had instructed the NDC to undertake repairs.
He was however surprised that works did not commence at the time, since he had already signed documents for the release of funds to repair several bridges in the community.
