City sides BK International Western Tigers, Santos, Georgetown Football Club (GFC) and Upper Demerara’s Silver Shattas are into the group of 16 round following wins on Saturday evening when the 6th annual Mackeson sponsored English/Kashif & Shanghai knock-out Futsal tournament continued at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
The Tigers roared to a comfortable 5-1 win against Northern Rangers who put up a good fight in the first half but their resistance dwindled away rapidly in the second allowing the Tigers to have their way. Nippy forward Devon Millington, who was rested in the first half tormented the Rangers defence on his way to recording a double (25, 26). Sherman David broke the deadlock in the 17th minute with strikes by Phillip Rowley (21) and Michael Henry two minutes before time in the 28th adding their bit for the Tigers.
Santos made light work of East Demerara’s Ann’s Grove, rallying to a 7-1 triumph. Michael Pedro (8, 29) and Travis Garraway (15, 30) shared four goals equally between them with one each to Jevon Gibson in the 23rd and Jamal Downer in the 27th minute. The initial goal was an own goal which was scored in the first minute.
GFC’s Peter Parks took on the challenge of Bakewell Buxton Stars 3-0 single handedly netting all three goals in the Bourda Blues’ 3-0 win. He was on target in the 9th, 15th and 27th minute.
Silver Shattas were pushed into overtime in their clash with East Banks’ Grove Hi Tec, the Linden side eventually advancing to the next round by virtue of a 6-3 triumph. The score at the end of full time was locked at 3-3 with the ensuing six minutes of extra time producing three goals for the Shattas, Grove experiencing a goal drought.
For the Shattas, John Waldron banged in four goals (7, 32, 29, 38), Nigel Price touched in the other two (23, 37). Scoring for Grove were John Matthews (4), Travis Jones (18) and Sherman Doris in the 19th.
In the two exhibition games, North Ruimveldt disconnected Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company 1-0, while Albouystown were too speedy for East End Taxi whom they hammered 4-0.
The final round of matches in the opening round will be contested tonight at the same venue. Camptown come up against Mahaica Determinators, Guyana Defence Force match skills with Plaisance, Alpha United oppose Victoria Kings while Black Pearl face off with Milerock.
