The teachers of the Bishops’ High School have been duly recognised by the institution’s Board for their contribution towards ensuring that the school recorded a 98.01 per cent overall pass rate at the recent Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examination.
The school was able to secure 100 percent passes in 17 subject areas namely Agriculture Science, Biology, Chemistry, Economics, English A, Food and Nutrition, Integrated Science, Home Economics Management, Physics, Office Administration, Principles of Business, Social Studies, Technical Drawing, EDPM, Human and Social Biology, Clothing and Textiles and Information Technology.
Of those who wrote the examination, 48 achieved Grade Ones in five or more subject areas while 18 obtained grade ones in eight and more subjects.
Among the outstanding students are Tajaram Dhanraj and Bria McKenzie both with 11 grade ones, Donella Mohabir, Youni Abdul and Tamara Gilhuys with 10 grade ones, Varsha Arjune, Analisa Baird, Dacia George, Rebecca Khan, Sarah Samaroo, Vidya Sukhu and Ian Smith each with nine grade one passes.
The School Board in a release applauded the efforts of the teachers and also the present and recently retired headmistresses, for their hard, dedicated work with the students, and the evident success.
A total of 10,243 candidates drawn from schools countrywide participated in the examination indicating that more students participated this year when compared to last year. In addition, it was revealed that candidates wrote more subjects this year.
Candidates from Guyana were offered 36 subjects at the examination of which the results indicated excellent performances in 17 subjects where the grade one to three passes exceeded 75 percent.
