A post mortem performed on the remains of 44-year-old Motilall Singh has revealed that the US-based Guyanese died as a result of shock and haemorrhage due to multiple stab wounds.
According to a source close to the investigation, the man’s body bore at least twenty stab wounds.
Meanwhile, the four persons who are currently in police custody are expected to appear in court sometime later today.
The man’s stepdaughter, stepson, a labourer and his stepson-in-law are the persons in custody assisting with investigations.
On Monday last police were summoned to Windsor Forest on the West Coast of Demerara where they found Singh’s body.
Acting on information received, the police had detained the labourer, the man’s stepdaughter and her brother. The stepdaughter’s husband had gone into hiding after the labourer reportedly confessed to being a part of a plot to have Singh killed. The man was however caught by police on Tuesday and was found with several cuts about his body which he reportedly sustained during the scuffle with Singh before his death. This was initially told to the police by the labourer who also told investigators that he held down Singh while the other man repeatedly stabbed him about his body.
There are reports, too, that the man’s relatives had reportedly paid another hit-man $180,000 to do the job. But the ‘hit-man’ made off with the fee without harming Singh and the relatives then allegedly paid the labourer $150,000 to commit the crime.
Singh had only returned to Guyana some three weeks ago for the burial of his brother. He was scheduled to return to the United States tomorrow.
