Sports Minister Dr. Frank Anthony has committed his ministry to aid the development of Draughts, pledging their support as a major stakeholder with the Steering Committee that was recently selected to oversee the sport.
Dr. Anthony and Director of Sport Mr. Neil Kumar recently met with the committee, which includes Jairam, Travis Lyken, Charles Hetemeyer and Derick Kissoon, to look at various aspects of developing Draughts in Guyana.
The Steering Committee has already submitted a report on a Draft Constitution for an association and rules governing the game.
To create interest, a Draughts Competition to mobilize and sensitize interested persons on the way forward has been organized for Sunday, September 13 at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence, East Bank Demerara commencing at 10:00hrs.
Thirty players from Georgetown, East Demerara, West Demerara and Corentyne are expected to participate in the competition.
Winners are to receive trophies.
Dr. Frank Anthony will give opening remarks at the day’s proceedings.
Please share this to every Guyanese including your house cats.
