Kurt Rodney, 29, of Uitvlugt West Coast Demerara, on Sunday last, narrowly escaped instant death when a wall of earth collapsed on him.
At around 07:00 hrs on Sunday last, at Goat Creek in the interior, Rodney was ‘jetting’ when the earth around him caved in.
Kaieteur News was told by relatives that Rodney was covered for approximately an hour, from the neck down and missed getting completely covered because of his own quick actions; running away from the collapsing area.
Relatives believe that Rodney was only caught by the tailend of the falling earth.
Kaieteur News understands that the fortunate man has been in the mining industry for some 13 years, but was only attached to this particular mining camp for approximately a month and has never found himself in a situation such as this one.
Up to Sunday evening, Rodney was resting at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, with three broken ribs and internal bleeding.
