Dear Editor,
It is with profound sadness that I write this letter to you.
I must applaud the media for the exposure of this story. If it weren’t for them, this might have been another of the many unfair acts being swept under the carpet. Also the bold officers who decided to voice their opinion about this disrespectful act. I pray that they don’t have to shout ‘victimisation’.
There are so many lingering, unanswered questions in my head relating to this ‘dismissal’ of one of Guyana’s most intelligent and efficient senior police officers. Not to mention, youngest too.
Mr. McBean is an honourable, committed and very approachable man. He always displays an exceptionally high level of moral standing and professionalism. A few of his famous words are “boy me nah hang out with me uniform, not at all. I have to set the right example at all times.”
I have seen many officers engaging in social activities while in uniform in the ‘public’ with absolutely no regard! Doesn’t this, as small as it may seem, say something about Mr. McBean’s loyalty and respect for his job?
Enlighten me here please. What is so wrong about a young, dedicated officer wanting to elevate himself academically? Why was his leave denied in all cases? What is the Guyanese public missing here? Didn’t Mr. McBean return to serve his country immediately after the completion of his Master’s Programme?
Mr. Editor, having heard about so many alleged, corrupt and ill practices by officers of the Guyana Police Force, and yet they are being promoted (with tons of supporting evidence to support their involvement), I firmly believe that Mr. McBean’s case was dealt with unfairly.
If he went against protocol in proceeding to elevate himself academically outside of Guyana, which is highly ‘strange’ from such an officer, then perform some sort of disciplinary action ; but to ‘dismiss’ him? Does such an action warrant a dismissal indeed? Is this law applicable for all public servants?
Let us think about all that Mr. McBean did for our country; the many accolades Guyana received as a result of Mr. Simon Mc Bean’s efforts. Can we really afford to lose such an asset?
I simply ask that those dealing with this matter to revisit their decision made and allow wisdom to prevail.
Former Senior Police Officer
Please share this to every Guyanese including your house cats.
