New Amsterdam United via a walk over is still at the top of the leader board in the Coca Cola / Berbice Football Association (BFA) Division One League which continued last Sunday in the Ancient County.
Their scheduled opponents, Strike Force failed to show up, but in the afternoon’s other match up, Real Union, playing with 10 men throughout upstaged Mahaicony United 3-1.
Delroy Fraser opened the scoring for Real Union in the 16th minute for a first half 1-0 advantage.
In the second period, Mahaicony turned on the pressure, but custodian Dorwin Nicholson kept the attackers at bay until the 86th minute when overlapping goalkeeper Newt Mahaica took a long range shot which his team mate Leroy Halley deftly headed into equalise the score, 1-1.
Two minutes later Floyd Morris beat Mahaica with a low shot to his right to restore Real Union’s advantage. Not to be out done, Fraser picked the ball up on the right side, dribbled the advancing defender and pushed the ball past the advancing Mahaica in the 89th minute to complete a brace, securing victory for his side.
Over at the Number 5 Playfield on the West Coast of Berbice, Rosignol United also gained a walkover from Scottsburg United.
In the main event, home team Monedderlust failed to capitalise on home advantage and fell 1-0 to the skilled Cougars FC. Horace Roache netted the winner in the 38th minute.
