Almost four years after being charged with stealing some $4M in cash, a former Kayman Sankar Courier Service Manager and his colleague have decided to settle the matter after repaying the money, thus bringing an end to the matter.
On December 20th, 2005, Rajesh Ramnauth and Kenard Nickram first appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court before the then Acting Chief Magistrate Cecil Sullivan. It was alleged that on December 7th, 2005, the duo stole $4M in cash, the property of Tamesh Jagmohan.
Initially the men pleaded not guilty and the matter went to trial. The court was told that on the day in question the virtual complainant, Jagmohan, mailed a box containing the cash at Kayman Sankar Courier Service at Hampton Court on the Essequibo Coast.
The box was placed on an aircraft which was destined for the Ogle Airport.
However, sometime during the flight or thereafter, the box containing the cash was switched.
Meanwhile the matter came to an end yesterday at the Sparendaam Magistrates’ Court. The prosecutor during the yesterday’s court proceedings informed Magistrate Yohhahnseh Cave that they were in receipt of a correspondence from the Director of Public Prosecutions which stated that the matter would be discontinuing, and as such the charges were dropped.
Meanwhile this newspaper has been informed that the defendants decided to repay the money.
The virtual complainant has since received the money and the matter resolved.
