…suspects reputed wife arranged ambush
Relatives and friends of 46-year old Eon Bayley, a builder/contractor, are seeking justice for what they consider the attempted murder of their friend, father, son and nephew.
On the night of Wednesday last at around 21:00 hrs, Bayley arrived at his lot 362 Crane Housing Scheme, West Coast Demerara home, not knowing that he was about to be the victim of a brutal ambush.
Bayley recounted that it was after he entered his home and was about to switch on his lights that he felt a blow to the head. He told Kaieteur News that he then fell to the floor, while his attackers rained more blows about his body. Bayley said that he suspects that at least four men had taken part in the brutal attack.
According to Bayley, the ordeal lasted about 15 minutes. He claimed that he tried desperately to escape, only to be dragged back into the house. He eventually managed to crawl and run out of his yard and into the street where he collapsed.
By this time, his reputed wife, 34-year old Kim Bacchus, came running out of the house, explaining that she had nothing to do with the attack., saying “Ya know me an you got story……dey tie me up in de house…….I wouldn’t do that to you.”
Bayley went on to say that he had not heard anyone speaking during the beating, and therefore began to wonder how it was that his reputed wife knew of the incident. As a crowd gathered around the battered man he declared that he didn’t want her around him, telling the crowd to get her away from him.
Injured and bleeding, he was taken to the West Demerara Hospital, where he overheard Bacchus again telling those that had gathered that she was tied up in the house while her reputed husband was being beaten.
Relatives made a report to the police and Kim Bacchus was subsequently detained and later placed on bail. After being released on bail, Bacchus was seen entering the Crane Housing Scheme house, and leaving later with three suitcases.
Bayley told reporters that she had stolen one of his more expensive tools worth some $800,000, adding that she had also taken his PKK 4061 car since the previous Saturday and that he did not know what she has done with it.
This newspaper was told that Bayley and Bacchus have cases before the courts and that Bacchus had on at least one occasion tried to provoke Bayley into hitting her. He assumes that she would have wanted to use any marks of violence against him in court.
Bayley suspects that Bacchus wanted him out of their home, so that she could have it for herself and their two young children.
The two have been together for the past five and a half years. Relatives told this newspaper that the woman highly dislikes Bayley’s other children, and would ill-treat them.
Though none of the other children were ever hit by Bacchus, one of Bayley’s young daughters told this newspaper of one occasion that Bacchus had approached her in a threatening manner.
Family members are furious that police have released Bacchus, saying that her actions were premeditated, because she had left the gate to the house unlocked; she had not let their dogs loose as was normal after a certain hour of the night; and that she had removed their two children from the house, all before the beating occurred.
