Dear Editor,
Congratulations are extended to the officers who investigated and charged the four police ranks for the missing money from the Essequibo River heist.
While there might be a few good officers trying to uphold the good name of the Guyana Police Force, there are others who are going all out to destroy it for their own greed.
Over the years I have heard and read of the escalation of corruption in the police force and only seeing a small fraction of the culprits being charged.
I have written before about the corruption of officers in the D Division, and it was no surprise to see that officers from there got charged.
I believe that if it wasn’t the nature of the crime and all the publicity that follows it, no one would have known how desperate some of the police officers are, and should the Commissioner decide to investigate that division for corruption I believe that most of the officers there will lost their way in jail.
There are a lot of people who have complaints of harassment and victimization being meted out to them by police from some officers of the D Division, especially at Leonora Station.
Others are scared to file complaints, while others lodge complaints and are not hearing anything.
Only recently a group of people went there to report a suicide around 5:00am and one of the person that went with them told me that they were made to wait over one hour and fifteen minutes, because the officers could be seen gambling near the police canteen in Leonora Police Station.
I don’t know when all the embarrassment that the Guyana Police Force is facing will be stopped, but I pray that it will be soon.
Finally, I am happy to see that the taxi driver that the three officers stopped and were contemplating to kill survive, because if it was an isolated place they had stopped him, I shudder to think what might have happened, because we all are seeing what the greed of money are doing to mankind.
