Zorg, Golden Fleece, Johanna Cecelia Community High School and Aurora Secondary recorded victories as the South Essequibo U-17 20/20 cricket competition commenced last Tuesday at the Suddie Cricket Ground on the Essequibo Coast.
In the first game Zorg defeated Heyliger X1 by 15 runs. Zorg batted first and made 85 all out in 17.5 overs with Ronier Shaw getting 43 not out as Rabindra Persaud and James Hendricks took two wickets each for Heyliger X1 who were bowled out for 70 in 16 overs . David Prince top scored with 20 while Jerome Mahase captured 4-11 for the winners.
In the day’s second encounter Golden Fleece got the better of Aurora by 1 wicket.
Aurora took first strike and scored 86 all out in 15 overs. Andy Dass was their leading run getter with 28 while Nyron Jaggernauth supported with 23 as Shivnarine Qrilall captured 2-10 and Anand Sooknandan 2-17.
Golden Fleece in reply encountered a few nervous moments before they achieved victory in the 18th over ending on 87-0. Orilall ended unbeaten on 27.
And on Wednesday at the same venue Johanna Cecelia Community High School overcame Golden Fleece by 8 wickets and Aurora Secondary defeated Paton X1 by 5 wickets.
SCORES: Golden Fleece 45 all out in 12 overs (Shivnarine Orilall 15, Ameer Mohamed 2-13, Ricardo Peters 3-8) lost to J.C.C.H.S 46-2 in 15 overs. (Ricardo Peters 25 n.o, Ameer Mohamed17, Davindra Persaud 2-17).
Paton X1 65 all out in 14 overs (George Beharry 25, Wazim Karoon 5-15) lost to Aurora Secondary 68-5 in 16 overs. (Andy Dass 22, Wazim Karoon 15 n.o).
