Two service organizations in East Berbice have come to the aid of two persons who are differently-able. The East Canje Lions and the New Amsterdam Rotary Club together presented one wheelchair each to 68-year-old Juliet Arjune and eight-year-old Azad Hussein.
Arjune, of Cumberland , East Canje Berbice, has been stricken with stroke and cancer for the past eight years. She lives with her daughter and son-in-law, neither of whom is employed.
Her daughter Rohinie Arjune said that it is very difficult for them to take care of her stricken mother and so she was grateful for the assistance.
Hussein, of Stanleytown in New Amsterdam, Berbice, was born with a spinal defect and as a result he is unable to walk without the help of others. His mother, Zafeena Ali, thanked the organisations for their compassionate gesture.
President of the East Canje Lions club, businessman Devin Sookraj, said his organisation will always try to help families in need as it is part of their mandate.
President of the Rotary club, Dr Ganesh, speaking after the presentation, said the chairs were supplied by a sister Club in Trinidad which obtained them from the Wheel Chair Foundation in the United States.
