Police on the Essequibo Coast have detained a 40-year-old man after receiving information that he was sexually molesting his teenaged daughter.
According to reports, the teen’s parent had reported her missing over the weekend.
However the family subsequently received information that the teen was hiding at a friend’s home on the Essequibo Coast.
The teen’s father and another relative went to the friend’s home to get the girl.
The teen was then taken to the police station where she told investigators that she was sexually involved with a boy and they had intercourse on several occasions, with her consent.
She further related that her father was the one who was responsible for her leaving the home since she was ill-treated and sexually molested.
Investigators were told that the teen was being molested by her father from January of this year and the last incident took place in July.
Meanwhile, the boy with whom the teen admitted to having sex with is expected to appear in court on a carnal knowledge charge.
As it relates to the allegation the teen made against her father, the file has been sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions for advice. Investigations are ongoing.
