The second batch of Chinese volunteers was on Monday welcomed to Guyana at a press conference where Chinese Ambassador to Guyana Zhang Jungao and Permanent Secretary within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr. John Isaacs officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Chinese Government Youth Volunteers.
The 14 young men were chosen out of more than 700 volunteers in the programme and are here to assist in five Government agencies, namely the Ministries of Education, Culture Youth and Sport, Health, and the Geology and Mines Commission, as well as the Office of the President. The Chinese volunteers hail from the Nanjing Municipality, capital of the Jiangsu Province of China, and are expected to be here for a year to contribute to the development of the Government Agency to which they are attached.
The General Secretary of Youth Volunteers Association of Nanjing City, Ding Ming, promised that the young men will stick to the good customs of the first team, and that they will continue to promote the good relations between China and Guyana, as well as provide a better service to the Guyanese people.
Among the volunteers are anaesthesiologists, nurses, teachers in physical education, a martial arts coach, geological researchers and an economist.
