This newspaper reiterates its commitment to the high ideals of the Fourth Estate. It is our duty, our responsibility and our calling to report on matters of public interest and to be a watchdog for the people.
We reject, categorically, the accusations that we are the mouthpiece of the opposition and wish to bring down the government. That is not our mission, and has never been what this newspaper has been about. We deplore the attempts being made to paint this newspaper as having sinister motives and we deplore the ongoing bottom-house campaign casting us in a negative light.
We had expected this turn of events. We had reported some time ago, the threat by those who had indicated that ways would have to be found to deal with Kaieteur News. Kaieteur News has been vigilant about the threat. We have been on our guard.
But we shall not allow this to prevent, discourage or retard us in reporting on matters of public concern. The public has a right to information and we have a duty to provide that information.
We have insisted on answers to matters of public concern. When answers are not forthcoming, when public officials place obstacles in the path of transparency and wish to hide the facts, it is our responsibility to speak out, as we have done and as we shall continue to do.
We have not been selective in our reporting and have not been targeting any specific agency of the State. We have been questioning a number of things, including the sale of shares and public properties, and we have been examining whether the public is obtaining value for money in relation to some public works. For this we have attracted the wrath and ire of some, but we believe and are committed to serving the greater good of being a watchdog for the people and providing them to the best of our ability with fair, accurate and timely information.
Please share this to every Guyanese including your house cats.
