– man who struck down Eileen August still at large
Police have detained the 21-year-old sister of the driver who failed to take 78-year-old Eileen August to hospital after knocking her down almost two weeks ago.
The 21-year-old bank employee is the owner of the silver-grey station wagon, which injured August in the accident.
The same sister was also a passenger in the vehicle when the accident occurred.
She was arrested on Monday and is being detained at the East La Penitence Police Station. Her mother, who reportedly, was also in the car at the time, was detained and released on $10,000 station bail.
Contrary to earlier reports, the driver is still at large. He is reportedly in the interior but relatives have since contacted him. A relative told Kaieteur News that the man is expected to return to Georgetown soon.
A relative who spoke to Kaieteur News yesterday said that the driver dropped his sister off at a funeral home and took Mrs. August to the Bourda Market before dropping her home.
Kaieteur News understands that police tracked down the car after making checks at the funeral home where August said she was taken after the accident happened.
The names of the suspects were later narrowed down and the driver’s mother and sister were taken into custody.
The car was reportedly found at the suspect’s home at Parfait Harmonie.
Mrs. August had told this newspaper that she was on her way to Bourda Market when the driver struck her down from behind.
She sustained a broken femur and broken leg along with other abrasions to the body.
Despite her injuries, Mrs. August alleged that the driver took her to the market and then to a city funeral home, where a funeral service was reportedly being held for his grandmother.
After that, the driver allegedly took Mrs. August home and placed her into her rocking chair, leaving her there until relatives found her days later.
