Fruta Conquerors and Alpha United will renew an old rivalry tomorrow in the final of the East Coast Reunion ‘Million Dollar Baby’ Football Tournament after respective wins in their semi-final games Thursday night.
Alpha United brushed side the Guyana Defence Force 3-0 in the featured game while the Fruta Conquerors unit defeated Kings 2-0 in the first game. The games were played at the venue of the finals, the Georgetown Football Club.
The soldiers played with purpose and heart, which should have produced results as early as in the seventh minute, but Stellon David’s shot went wide. The encounter had lots of emotion and tempers flared on both sides.
Edison Gomes put Alpha ahead in the 14th minute when he drilled a powerful shot to the back of the net after receiving a cross from Dwayne Jacobs. Dwight Peters netted a brace in the 46th and 65th minutes to seal the deal for Alpha.
Jomo Hinds silenced a crowd of mainly Kings’ supporters when he put his team ahead in the 92nd minute with Delon Williams making it 2-0 in the 105th minute after a few lapses on defence for the mighty Kings.
Kings and the Defence Force will play in the third place game tomorrow.
