The Guyana Defence Force Sports Department hosted its ‘Standing Points’ Track and Field event at their Camp Ayanganna Ground yesterday ahead of the annual Inter-Unit Championships that is expected to commence on Tuesday.
Up to press time, Kaieteur Sport could not ascertain the leading Unit because that was not tallied according to officials from the Sports Department. The results from the ‘Standing Points’ contest will be treated separately.
Officials explained that years ago, the points used to be added to the general results from the Inter-Unit Championships but that is no longer the case and a separate trophy will be awarded to the Unit that tops the ‘Standing Points’.
The ‘Standing Points’ competition is one in which there are usually specific times for the track events and distances for field events that athletes must either surpass or equal to be deemed eligible for the Inter-Unit Championships.
It is the Defence Force trials but points are nevertheless award to Units and the top Unit receives a trophy at the presentation ceremony. Defence Headquarters are the defending champions of the Inter-Unit competition.
