Shellon Sancho yesterday appeared before Magistrate Hazel Octave-Hamilton on the charge of possession of narcotics with intent to traffic and pleaded not guilty.
It is alleged that on Monday Sancho, who was heading to the island of Barbados, was stopped at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport and her luggage searched.
It was during the search of one of her two suitcases that authorities came across a blue parcel which was stuffed with cocaine.
The accused and her package were taken to the CID Eve Leary Narcotics Branch, where the package weighed in at a whopping 2 kilos 954 grams.
During the court proceedings, yesterday, Sancho decided to change her not guilty plea to guilty.
When asked if she had anything to say, the accused begged that Madam Magistrate be lenient with her.
Magistrate Hazel Octave-Hamilton took this into consideration and fined the female $2.7 million and sentenced her to four years imprisonment.
