Village Day celebrations at Guyhoc Park erupted in chaos around 01:00 hrs yesterday, after a gang of youths with handguns invaded the community.
By the time they left, Keith Tute, 19, was lying in an alleyway after being knocked unconscious by a bullet which grazed the back of his head.
Another youth from the community was also beaten senselessly, while a female was reportedly kicked by the thugs, who reportedly reside in Festival City.
Both young men had to seek treatment at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).
One of the victims, Travis Peters, said that he was dancing with a female friend when one of the gang members ordered him to stop dancing with “his girl.”
The youth said that he ignored the troublemaker and continued to dance with the friend. He alleged that he then received a punch to the face which knocked him senseless.
His friends lifted the unconscious youth to his home and he was later taken to the GPHC.
Keith Tute, of Lot Q 78 Guyhoc Park, is fortunate to be alive after an encounter with the same gang of armed thugs.
The teen’s mother said that her son has had a long grievance with the youths.
She told Kaieteur News that shortly before 01:00 hour, her son had “an exchange of words” with some of the troublemakers.
According to the woman, the gang left but then returned with handguns.
A young woman told Kaieteur News that she overheard Tute saying that he was “fed up with people coming into the community and beating up people.”
She said she was attempting to calm him down when someone struck her in the back.
On turning around, she was confronted by a young man who was brandishing a gun. The woman said that she then heard a gunshot and saw Tute fall to the ground.
The shooter and his accomplices then fled.
Kaieteur News was told that the suspects had also punched and kicked another young woman.
The incident was reported to the police but the suspects were still at large up to late yesterday afternoon.
Sources gave the aliases of some of the troublemakers as ‘Killer’, ‘Cordell,’, ‘Trini’, ‘Dwayne’, ‘Cologne’ and ‘Whistle.’
The young thugs reportedly hang out regularly in an abandoned building in Festival City.
