Aliann Pompey lowered her national 400m record Monday night, when she placed fourth at the Athens Grand Prix, as the United States-based athlete continues her preparation for the IAAF World Athletics Championships.
Pompey ran 50.90 to better her 2004 national record that was 50.93. She had equalled the record last year at the Beijing Olympic Games. The 50.90 time is also Pompey’s fastest this year and personal best time in the event.
Jamaica’s Novelene Williams won the race in 50.05, while United States’ Monica Hargrove was second in 50.39. Defending World 400 metres champion, Senegal’s, Amy Thiam was third in 50.72.
