Defeat Grove by 7 wickets in final
Muslim Youth Organisation (MYO), are the Bakewell sponsored Muslim Youth Organisation Inter-Jamaat round-robin 15-over softball cricket champions, following a comfortable 7 wicket win over Grove in the final played on Sunday last at the MYO ground, Woolford Avenue, Thomas Lands.
Man-of-the-Final, Richard Latiff turned in a sterling all-round display to lead MYO to a sweet victory. Latiff first grabbed 3 wickets with 2 each for team mates Shaheed Gittens and Bilal Haslim, as Grove, who batted first were limited to 146-9 off their allotted overs.
For Grove, Shafeek Ishmael slammed 62, spiced with 8 sixes and a solitary boundary, Ameer Khan chipped in with 26 (3×6).
MYO in reply knocked off the required runs for victory, losing a mere 3 wickets. Latiff fell one short of 50, clearing the boundary 4 times and hit a similar amount of fours. Shaheed Gittens backed up with 32 (2×6 & 3×4).
In the semi-finals which were contested also on Sunday, Grove got past Farm ‘B’ while MYO took care of Farm ‘A’ who placed 3rd overall. Vivian Bissoon of Farm ‘A’ copped both the batsman scoring the most runs and bowler claiming the most wickets awards. Shazim Mohammed of Triumph Jamaat was rewarded for scoring the highest individual score of 88 against Diamond New Scheme.
The bowler with the best figures was Naeem Khalil of Cornelia Ida, who took 5-8 against Lusignan.
Meanwhile, another competition organised by the MYO and sponsored by the Trophy Stall (10 overs tapeball) is expected to commence shortly.
