The Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club (GMR&SC) will stage a 3-hour Endurance Race on Sunday, at the South Dakota Circuit.
According to a release from the club, some 25 teams are expected to be part of this exciting event, including drivers from Guyana, Trinidad & Tobago and Suriname.
Endurance racing is meant to test the durability of the cars and the stamina of participants.
Teams will comprise a maximum of three drivers, each taking control of the wheel for not more than one hour or less than 30 minutes, until the race is over.
The teams covering the most laps in the three hours will be declared the champions in their respective groups.
Trophies are up for grabs in three groups:
Group A: Vehicles with capacity up to 1600cc.
Group B: Vehicles with capacity 1601to 2000cc.
Group C: Unlimited Class above 2000cc
At the last 3-hour Endurance Event, held in 2008, Adrian Fernandes and Anand Ramchand driving the Trans Pacific/Ramchand’s Auto Body Toyota Corolla sped away with the overall victory completing 111 laps in the three hours.
Team Fullworks 2 captained by Aaron Bethune with co-drivers Shawn Seejatan and Naresh driving a supercharged 4AGE Corolla placed first in the unlimited class and second overall with 111 laps.
Shairaz and Shahab Roshandin also of Team Fullworks placed first in the 1600cc class and third overall, they completed 107 laps.
The event starts at 12:00 hrs and will be completed by 15:00 hrs
Spectators arriving after the start are asked to use the Airport entrance, as the Soesdyke Highway entrance will be closed to vehicular traffic during the event.
There will be well stocked food and drinks bars. Admission is free.
