Arthurville and Sans Souci shared the glory by winning the Boys and Girls titles, as the Al Sport & Tour Promotions/Guyana Teachers Union/Stereo Sonic-sponsored Primary Schools Windball Championships ended last Tuesday, at Seeram’s Hard Court.
The tournament was declared open by President of Essequibo Cricket Board & Treasurer of Guyana Cricket Board Sheik Ahmad.
In his remarks, Ahmad said he was pleased to be associated with the programme and also thanked the organisers and all those who were involved in bringing the programme to Wakenaam.
In the Boys final, Arthurville beat Sans Souci by 8 wickets.
Taking first strike, Sans Souci scored 76-3 off their 6 overs with Purnanand Persaud 27, Navindra Sooklall 18 not out.
Arthurville in their turn at the wicket made 77-2 off 3.5 overs with Player of the Final Rai hitting an unbeaten 49 which included 7 towering maximums, while Kashif Duncan added 12.
In the Girls final, Sans Souci turned the tables by defeating Arthurville by 9 wickets.
Arthurville batted first after winning the toss and compiled 52-2 with Trevonna Payne 21* and Towanda Clementson 13*, being the principal scorers. Fazeena Hamid grabbed 2-8.
Sans Souci, who at one stage needed 40 runs from 4 overs eventually reached the victory target with 3 balls to spare, ending on 53-1 in 5.3 overs.
Player of the finals Hamid hit 13, while Ludean Black and Kumrai Singh each scored 10. Trevon Payne took 1-10.
