- Senior National League set for August latest

In keeping with the requirements as mandated by FIFA Development Officer Keith Lok Loy, President of the Local Federation Colin Klass told Kaieteur Sport yesterday that just as what is happening in Jamaica presently, the local body will be conducting Administration Upgrade Courses shortly for clubs.

Klass said that the Federation will be offering courses for coaches, administrators, referees, marketing and match commissioners and currently, they are discussing the dates for these lectures, which will be forwarded to Lok Loy for his approval.

Asked whether the Resource Team will be made up of local lecturers, Klass responded by saying, “not in all cases, if we see a need to solicit a person(s) from overseas, we will make that request to Lok Loy and await his guidance”.

The local football ‘big wig’ had in the past alluded to the Federation holding such courses in its effort to improve the football infrastructure and build capacity within clubs, shortly before the staging of the much touted National League, which will run under the aegis of ‘Win in CONCACAF with CONCACAF’.

“We are conducting these courses with the aim of ensuring the venture is a true success,” Klass said.

According to him, they were advised by Lok Loy to initiate the national tournaments with the running off of the junior programmes in the Under-13, 15 and 17 categories, along with the Ladies.

Those competitions could start a couple of weeks after the courses, while the senior League should commence by the end of August at the latest.

The President went on to inform that on Saturday, the Federation will be meeting with all associations’ heads to formalise plans, including the criterion to be used to select teams for the League.

He added that contrary to earlier reports, Guyana has not been excluded from the ‘Win in CONCACAF with CONCACAF’ Programme and remains eligible for funding for the undertaking.
