Come Sunday, football fans, for the first time will be able to witness live ‘a fight between a lion and a tiger’, when the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport Victoria Inter Block football final is staged under floodlights at the Victoria ground.
Belfield Tigers are down to collide with Mid Section Lions for the right to be called area Kings. Carrying the names of notoriously savage felines, the two teams in the final have scratched, ripped and bitten their way into the present envious position. Sunday’s final is being labeled as a pure “jungle warfare” by coordinator Everall Mundy, who promised an entertaining evening.
“It has been quite a while since we have held something such as this in Victoria and the entire village and those bordering are looking forward to it.” According to Mundy three games are carded for the day with the first commencing at 4:30pm.
“I think that we have put something in for everyone since on our schedule we have a youth game and one for females.”
Mid Section Lions will be led by Andrew Holder and includes marksman Orin Elias, who have so far fired in two goals in the tournament. Kurt Adams, Ruben Morris, Ellis Skeete, Mortimer Murphy, Rocky Collins, Seon Elias, Akeem Holder and Ken Gulliver among others will provide support.
Cojo ‘Cutter’ Huntley will captain Belfield Tigers and will be supported by the tournament’s leading goal scorer Aubrey Gibson (four goals), Trevor Fraser, Pierre Joseph, Dominic Joseph, Oral Lashley, Richard Pryor, Lowattie Holder, Avery Musa, Dexter Whaul, Sherlock Dowden, Calvin DeSouza, Quasey De Souza and Donald Lutchman.
In the opening game of the triple-header card, Buxton Under-17 will clash with Victoria Kings Under-17. From 6:00pm, a Georgetown female combination take on their counterparts from Victoria.
