Thirty two teams will begin their quest for top honours this weekend at the start of the Guyana Softball and Windball Cricket Association (GS&WCA) sponsored 15-15 Tapeball cricket tournament at the GS&WCA ground on Carifesta Avenue.
The teams have been divided into four groups with six matches carded for Saturday and two on Sunday to get the competition rolling.
Tournament Coordinator Rodnew McDonald said the competition will be played on a knockout format and teams are eager to be in action. According to McDonald, several 20/20 rules will be in force including free hits and super overs if teams are tied at the end of a match.
Two matches are carded for 09:00 hours Saturday with Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC) taking on Falcons in a Group ‘A’ showdown and Mocha coming up against Terrence XI in Group ‘C’.
National Shipping (GNSC) will square off with Ghetto Stars and Dyna’s Bravado will take on Camex Challengers at 13:00 hours, while Enmore will play TDI Challengers and Faith XI tackling Bank of Guyana in Group ‘C’ matches at 15:30 hours.
On Sunday, Neal and Massy will go into action against Ocean X1 at 13:00 hours while John Fernandes Ltd. will face Pharmagen at 15:30 hours.
The teams in Group ‘A’ are Hill Foot Strikers, Outlaws, Queenstown, Knight Riders, Friendship, Park Rangers, Falcon, GGMC and Republic Bank Ltd., while the teams in Group ‘B’ are Hawkeye, Ghetto Stars, Ocean XI, Sterling Products, Neal and Massy, Kingston, GNSC and GWI.
Group ‘C’ teams are Pharmagen, John Fernandes, Mocha, Camex Challengers, Terrence X1, Strikers, Dyna’s Bravado and Mercenary, while in Group ‘D’ the contestants are Faith XI, Bank of Guyana, Public Hospital, TDI Challengers, Enmore, Finewood Enterprise, Golden Achievers and Shell Road.
Cash and trophies will be awarded to the top three teams, while other prizes will be up for grabs for outstanding individual performances and all matches will be played at GS&WCA ground, Carifesta Avenue at weekends and on public holidays until the conclusion of the tournament.
