After eight months…
Eight months after he disappeared during a seawall stroll, mystery continues to surround the whereabouts of Bushlot, West Coast Berbice truck driver, Rajnarine Hookumchand.
The 41-year-old Hookumchand, also called ‘Jacob’, disappeared on October 10, 2008, while staying at his sister’s home in Happy Acres, East Coast Demerara.
The sister, Cindy Koblall, told Kaieteur News that her brother informed her that he was going for a stroll near the seawalls.
He left at around 08:30 hrs, and indicated that he would be back at around 10:00 hrs.
When he failed to return, the sister attempted to contact him by cell phone, but received a recording which indicated that the instrument was turned off.
The family members said that they checked with other relatives and even scoured the seawall area that Hookumchand had left for, but found no trace of him.
According to the sister, Hookumchand left his watch, driver’s licence and other documents at her home before going for the stroll.
Mrs. Koblall said that her brother’s disappearance has caused his family much distress.
“We are still hoping to hear something, we miss him (and) his wife is finding it hard to cope.”
Hookumchand, who was the main earner, also has two sons, aged seven and eight.
The truck driver was last seen wearing a plaid shirt, blue jeans and a grey cap.
Persons with information on his whereabouts are asked to contact his sister, Cindy Koblall on telephone number 220-1630, or his brother, Shorland Hookumchand, on telephone number 614-5308.
Persons can also contact the nearest police station.
