Police are said to be questioning an East Coast Demerara man, who is believed to be one of the gunmen who fired several shots at Police Headquarters in January 2008.
The attack occurred some hours before gunmen slaughtered 11 residents at Lusignan, and Kaieteur News understands that the suspect is also being questioned about the January 26, 2008 mass killing.
According to police sources, the suspect was arrested on Friday and taken to the Brickdam Police Station and booked for murder. Yesterday, police officials took him to CID Headquarters, Eve Leary.
On the evening of January 25, 2008, gunmen fired several shots at Police Headquarters, Eve Leary. Two ranks were wounded in the attack.
In the early hours of the following day, a gang of marauding gunmen stormed the East Coast Demerara village of Lusignan, killing 11 persons, including five children.
The gunmen struck at around 02:00 hours, simultaneously kicking down the doors of five houses, slaughtering even children as they lay sleeping.
Police have blamed the killings, as well as the murder of 12 people in Bartica and the killing of eight more at Lindo Creek, on the now-dead Rondell ‘Fineman’ Rawlins and his gang.
