The island of Wakenaam is now benefiting from the services of a medical practitioner, Dr. Angela Binda, who has willingly volunteered to work every Wednesday at the Cottage Hospital.
Dr. Binda was born on that island and received her pre-schooling and part of her primary education there. She continued her education in the capital and was later trained as a medical doctor in Cuba. It had always been her desire to serve the community of her birth and she expressed joy at being afforded the opportunity.
At the Wakenaam Hospital, Dr. Binda is working along with Medex Kungbeharry and his wife, who works in the Maternity Section. Both of them are Wakenaam natives. At present, Dr. Binda is attached to the Leonora Diagnostic Centre.
The island of Wakenaam had been without the services of a doctor for some time and the residents have expressed gratitude for her service.
