Nine persons are nursing injuries following a two-vehicle collision which occurred at the junction of UG Road and the Rupert Craig Highway last night.
Reports are that it was sometime after 20:00 hours when a route 44 minibus, BJJ 9489, collided with an MMC pick-up, PFF 8441, causing it to flip several times before coming to a halt.
According to an eyewitness, one of the turns saw the pick-up rising even higher than the level of the seawall.
However, there were no causalities from either the minibus, which was carrying its capacity, or the pick-up, which had four MMC officers.
Among the injured that were rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital were Rawle Cumberbatch, of Ann’s Grove, and driver of the vehicle; Leslyn Wilson and Rodwell Kennedy, also of Ann’s Grove, Mark Blackett of Georgetown; Kwesi McKay and Shoma Balkarran, both of Annandale; Rasheed Khalil, of Chateau Margot, Rosetta D’Ornellas, of Triumph, and Aslyn Graham of Section ‘A’, South Sophia.
The minibus was heading to Ann’s Grove.
Recounting how the accident occurred, the driver of the minibus recounted that he was heading east along the Rupert Craig Highway when he slammed into the pick-up. The man disclosed that he had just moved off having responded to a green light traffic signal when the MMC vehicle, which was heading west along the highway, made a u-turn into the eastern bound carriageway.
The man said that he could not avoid hitting the pickup which swung into his path at a fast rate.
An eyewitness had a similar account and even ventured to highlight that “these MMC bannas does drive like them is police.”
Efforts to seek a comment from one of the MMC ranks were futile as he claimed he could not recall anything that occurred. Police are investigating.
