Greenwich Park and Leonora were crowned Region 3 Boys and Girls champions after they defeated their respective opponents in the finals of the Al Sport/Ministry of Culture, Youth & Sport (MCYS) Primary Schools Windball Cricket which concluded yesterday, at the Wales Community Centre.
In the Boys final- Greenwich Park beat Kawall by 6 wickets.
Taking first strike, Kawall reached 39-9 off the allotted 6 overs with Abdul Rafman hitting a top-score of 10. Ghansham Singh and Nicoloi Reddy each took 3 wickets, while Afridi Salim picked up 2.
In reply, Greenwich Park reached the required target for the loss of 4 wickets, ending on 42. Taleel Duke 16 not out and Avier Fredericks 10 were the principal
contributors. Devendra Ramlogan grabbed 2 wickets.
In the Girls final- Leonora squeezed past defending champions Mc Gillivry by 1 run.
Leonora invited to bat made 35-4 with MVP Tesleema Bacchus 22 not out. Thea Alfred and Mercedes Alfred each took a wicket.
Mc Gillivry were then restricted to 34-3 when the overs expired. Rohinie Doodnauth made 11, T Alfred 10. Bacchus returned to capture 2-10.
The Most Valuable Players were Avier Fredericks and Tasleema Bacchus.
Thirty schools participated in the tournament from West Bank Demerara, West Coast Demerara/ East Bank Essequibo.
Meanwhile, Leguan & Wakenaam Zones will get on the way shortly.
The championships are being organised by Sport Officer attached to the MCYS Allister Munroe.
