Carmichael, Lyght, Crandon, Hinckson also impress
Former Berbice senior Inter-County all-rounder Luke Latiff starred with both bat and ball over the weekend, as the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board two-day cricket competition resumed on the Island.
The 37-year-old Latiff who was a member of the 1989 Guyana Under-19 squad, got support from fellow Guyanese Kelon Carmichael and Jamal Hinckson in a losing effort for Sweet Revenge who conceded first innings points in the drawn game which concluded on Sunday.
Latiff, who hails from Edinburgh, East Bank Berbice, and now a resident of Trinidad, grabbed 7-76 with his controlled swing bowling before returning to hit an attractive 66.
Hinckson, who plays for DCC in Guyana, made 66 and former National Under-19 all-rounder Kelon Carmichael, who plays for Transport Sports Club (TSC) in Guyana, contributed 55.
Another Guyanese first-class player, Royston Crandon, was also in fine form with the ball taking 5-34 with his off-spin as Curepe Sports Club (CSC) dismissed Sweet Revenge for 144 after asking them to bat first on a slow Sweet Revenge track.
Hinkson made 22 in Sweet Revenge’s first innings before CSC replied with 231 to take an 87-run lead. Andrew Lyght Junior (son of deceased Guyana and West Indies ‘B’ team opener Andrew Lyght) hit an aggressive 56, while Crandon (21) and former Berbice left-hander Neil Williams (20) offered support as Latiff got support from Carmichael (2-67).
Sweet Revenge, looking for the maximum batting points in their second innings, declared at 431, with Latiff, Hinckson, and Carmichael all hitting half-centuries.
Williams, who represents Rose Hall Town in Guyana’s cricket, captured 4-104 while Crandon, the younger brother of Guyana medium pacer Esuan Crandon, took 2-96.
