Bermine, West Berbice, Rose Hall Town Windies Sports Bar (RHTWSB), Port Mourant and Albion registered wins on Saturday, as action continued in the Tenelec 50-over first division cricket competition in Berbice.
Bermine beat Police by 31 runs.
Led by a dogged 66 from Essequibo Inter-County off-spinner Andrew Williams, 32 from
Georgetown-based former Guyana Under-15 Captain Kwame Cross, 31 from the in-form Keion De Jesus and 27 from Berbice Under-19 player Joemal La Fleur, Bermine made 222 all out in 50 overs.
Albert Sinclair took 4-41 and Rocky Hutson 3-31 from their 10-over spells for Police who fell for 191 in 45.3 overs, despite 39 from Charles Grimmond, 35 from Jerry Heyliger and 30 from Hutson.
Former Berbice off-spinner Sean Devers took 3-34 from his 10 overs, after talented national female cricketer Tremayne Smartt (2-32 from 6 overs) had bowled Don Farley for a duck and removed the dangerous Michael Saul for 10, with the new ball to leave the score on 15-2. Saul, Guyana’s 100 metres athletics champion had made a century in the previous round.
Skipper and former Guyana Under-15 player Julian Moore supported Devers and Smartt with 2-43 for Bermine.
At Albion:
Christopher Jaundoo hit five fours in 50 for Skeldon. First-class left-arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul took 4-37 from 10 overs.
Test left-hander Narsingh Deonarine smashed 5 fours and 2 sixes in an entertaining unbeaten 48, while fellow Test player Sewnarine Chattergoon (30) and former Guyana 20/20 star Imran Khan, who clobbered 5 fours and 2 sixes in 37, led Albion to victory.
At Scotsburg:
Port Mourant whipped Scotsburg United by 62 runs, after making 171 all out in 48 overs and dismissing the opposition for 109 in 28 overs.
Shameer Khan (35), Chandrashekar Arjune (30) and Moshin Peerkhan (28) led the batting for Port Mourant as Essequibo Inter County left-arm spinner Robert Moore grabbed 4-10 and
Trevon McKintosh chipped in with 2-29.
Anthony Seeraj top scored with 31 in a losing cause, as medium pacer Yougendra Harrinarine took 6-31 with support from former national Under-19 off-spinner Steven Latcha, who took 2-18 from his new team.
At Bush Lot in West Berbice:
the home team got past Edinburgh by 45 runs after making 185 all out in 38 overs and bowling out the East Bank Berbice side for 140 in 40 overs.
Rajbance Hemraj stroked 7 fours and 2 sixes in 76, while Keno Gravesande made 28, as Zaheer Hussain (4-36), Raid Ali (3-28) and Ralph Chakalall (2-2) bowled well for Edinburgh in their first season at this level.
Yudrunauth Seepersaud made 41 and Ali 29. Krishundat Ramoo (2-10) and Denis Webster (2-23) spun their team to victory.
At Number 70 Village:
RHTWSB hammered Upper Corentyne by 6 wickets after reaching 99-4 in 17.1 overs replying to Upper Corentyne’s 98 all out in 27 overs.
Bheem Singh made a fighting 20 as National medium fast bowler Esuan Crandon took 5-50 and got support from off-spinner Troy Matheson, who bagged 4-18 from 10 overs.
Berbice Under-19 opener Eon Hooper spurred RHTWSB to victory with an undefeated 39 as pacer Omesh Khemraj took 2-28.
All matches scheduled for yesterday were rained out with the teams having to settle for a point each. The competition continues this week in the Ancient County.
