Twenty-six-year-old National wicketkeeper Derwin Christian hit 109 to highlight a rain-ruined round, of the Georgetown Cricket Association’s (GCA) Cellink Plus two-day first division competition over the weekend.
Christian’s ton spurred DCC to 164-4 when rain washed out their clash just before lunch, with the Queenstown side 11 away from first innings points against Everest. Troy Nurse was unbeaten on 22 for DCC, who began the final day on 144-2 replying to Everest’s 175. Left-arm spinner Sauid Drepaul took both wickets to fall yesterday to finish with 4-55.
Chris Patandin (38), Drepaul (37) and Chatterpaul Hemraj (22) were the main scorers for Everest as teenage leg-spinner Omesh Danram took 3-28, with support from Chris Barnwell (2-23) and Dino Choo-Wee-Nam (2-13).
At DCC, GDF began the final day on 21-0 in their second innings and reached 52-2, when rain halted the game just after lunch.
Shane Cummings’ 55 and Azeem Azeez’s 30 were the highlights of Transport Sports Club’s (TSC) first innings of 173, as Travis Gilbert (5-48), Paul Castello (2-29) and Andre McFarlane (2-13) did the damage with the ball.
GDF made 190 to take a 17-run first innings lead, with Vijay Singh (41) leading the fight. Azeez took 5-31 and Wazeer Mohammad 3-33.

West Indies ODI player Leon Johnson added eight to his overnight score before he was caught and bowled by ex-Test off-spinner and West Indies selector Clyde Butts for 41.
Former Guyana 20/20 wicketkeeper Tyrell Tull was undefeated on 26, as Butts, who turns 52 next month hit an unbeaten 95 in GNIC’s innings and captured 3-28 to continue his success against his much younger opponents, at the first division level.
National Under-17 opener Quincy Ovid-Richardson (31) supported Butts with the bat, as Johnson took 4-46 with his leg-spin in GNIC’s innings, with support from Joshua Wade who had 2-42.
At MSC, Police, 12-0 overnight, were 48-0 in their second innings when rain stopped play after taking first innings points from Malteenoes on the opening day.
Troy Benn (24) and Shameer Fazal (17) were the not out batsmen for the Cops who made 151 and dismissed MSC for 140.
Jason Heyliger (65), Regionald Rodrigues (24) and Rawle Browne (23) were the main scorers for Police. The competition’s leading wicket taker left-arm spinner Damien Vantull took his tally to 33 scalps with 4-43, backed up by Orin Forde (2-18).
Delvon McEwan top scored with 34, while Forde (27) and Shemroy Barrington (21) offered token resistance in a disappointing batting display from the much vaunted MSC line-up. Leg-spinner Vishal Jaigobin was the best Police bowler with 4-15 from nine testing overs. The competition continues on Saturday.
