Nigel Bryan and Trenace Lowe were among the successful players yesterday, when the National Sports Commission’s (NSC) Independence Table Tennis Tournament continued at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
Lowe and Bryan teamed up in the Junior Mixed Doubles to overwhelm duo, Adielle Rosheuvel and Denzel Hopkinson 12-10, 11-8 and 11-9, before moving on to the Girls and Boys’ Doubles category respectively.
Lowe and Hopkinson defeated Denzel Duff and Stephen Patoir 11-8, 11-7 and 11-7 in the Boys’ Doubles contest, while Lowe and Akiecia Nedd had a difficult time against national counterparts Chelsea Edghill and Rosheuvel.
Lowe and Nedd endured to eventually win 11-3, 5-11, 14-12, 7-11 and 11-6 before Lowe, Bryan and Joel Alleyne tied for the 21 Years and Under Open title after they finished the round robin playoff with similar aggregates.
Four players entered the playoff including Hopkinson who went down to Bryan 11-8, 11-9, 8-11, 8-11 and 11-8. Alleyne put Hopkinson out of contention when he defeated him in a 10-12, 11-8, 5-11, 11-9 and 12-10 nail biter.
Hopkinson had also lost to Bryan 13-11, 8-11, 11-8 and 11-8. Alleyne went on to defeat Bryan 12-10, 12-10, 9-11, 4-11 and 11-6 before Lowe inflicted a sound 5-11, 11-8, 11-7 and 11-7 thrashing on Alleyne yesterday.
However, Bryan redeemed himself in one of the marquee showdowns of the day against national counterpart, Lowe. He rallied to eventually win 13-11, 7-11, 11-7, 5-11 and 11-9 to bring him on par with Lowe and Alleyne on points.
