Man gets suspended sentence
Robbery with violence accused, Ronsford Thompson, 22, of 24 David Street, Rose Hall, Corentyne, on Wednesday got off lightly when Magistrate Chandra Sohan agreed to allow him to compensate his victim for a gold band he had stolen from him.
The band is worth $160,000 but Thompson repaid $90,000 in open court. On April 12, last, at Hampshire village, Corentyne, Thompson confronted Anthony Budhai, beat him up and robbed him of the gold band.
The matter was reported and the culprit was subsequently arrested. In court Thompson begged the magistrate and paid over the compensation in open court. He was subsequently sentenced to one year in jail but the sentence was suspended. Thompson was also ordered to perform community service for the rest of the month at the Albion Police Station.
