Dear Editor,
President Bharrat Jagdeo, at the cremation at Babu John, I feel, may have sensed concern and uncertainty of the future, that may have lurked in the minds and hearts of many members, supporters and sympathizers of the Peoples Progressive Party (PPP), following the sad loss of co-founder, former First Lady, and former President of Guyana, Mrs Janet Jagan, that motivated him to speak strong and clear words to assure and re-assure them of the strong foundations, assured future and continued importance of the party.
There must have been a sense of a void, or emptiness, following the death of Mrs. Jagan, calling for a strong restatement of the racial unity that existed at the start of the party, their commitment towards continuing and maintaining this emphasis, their strong foundation, and the need for continued loyalty and support.
This assurance was given, that Dr. Cheddi Jagan and Mrs. Janet Jagan will always be on a pedestal for the PPP and their spirit and legacy will always live on.
This, I feel, comforted and strengthened many of these members, supporters and sympathizers and pointed clearly to the way forward. From the foundation of the party, the doors remain open, closed to none, wishing to support it.
John Da Silva
