Ambassadors to India from Guyana and the Dominican Republic have lauded the aid in healthcare and education that Cuba has provided to the countries of the Caribbean.
In light of this, Cuban Ambassador to India, Miguel Angel Ramirez, said that Cuban ties with the Caribbean have grown and solidified on the basis of cooperation and solidarity.
These statements were made while Ramirez was addressing the Indian Council on World Affairs on Friday last in New Delhi, India. He noted that while Cuba’s financial ties with the Caribbean are not immense, sustained growth has been lucrative.
Guyanese ambassador to India, Jairam Ronald Gajraj, said that Cuban aid in healthcare and education to its Caribbean neighbours had been exceptional. Similarly, the ambassador to India from the Dominican Republic, Hans Dannenberg Castellanos said that it was, “invaluable what Cuba has done for our countries”.
Castellanos had been in a car accident in the Dominican Republic, which left him paralysed for a number of years. Doctors from both the Dominican Republic and the United States said that his case was hopeless. A number of Cuban specialists were able to assist Castellanos with rehabilitation, and today he has one child, with a second on the way.
