Hundreds of school children, cricket fans and workers from in and around Georgetown, Guyana participated in the Digicel Cricket Experience on Thursday last at the Parade Ground.
The highly anticipated Digicel Cricket Experience (DCE) was a resounding success in the ancient county and at Lusignan earlier this week.
The DCE provides a unique opportunity for youngsters and fans to test their cricket skills and to get an opportunity to rub shoulders with the West Indies stars and legends. West Indies Captain Chris Gayle along with Ramnaresh Sarwan, Denesh Ramdin and Darren Sammy spent time with fans and youngsters Thursday.
Crowds flocked them for pictures and autographs as children came from nearby schools and workers left offices. Among those who made it to the ground were staff and children from the David Rose School for Children with Special Needs. Despite their disabilities the children were eager to get close to Gayle and Sarwan and the players took time to sign caps and entertain them.
Many of the fans and students who were testing their catching and batting skills won prizes including a BlackBerry Javelin and Tickets for the two Digicel One Day International games being played at the Providence Stadium over this weekend.
Guyanese Windies batsman, Ramnaresh Sarwan, commented on the turnout in Georgetown: “It is great to come out and meet our fans. Guyana is a big cricket country and the fans came out in their numbers.
We are all happy to be able to greet our young fans especially.”
The Digicel Cricket Experience (DCE) is being hosted in the six host countries of the Digicel Series 2009: Jamaica, Antigua, Barbados, Trinidad, Guyana and St. Lucia.
