– attempting to make motor racing more accessible
Clearly not intent on resting on its laurels even after a highly successful 2008, the Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club in collaboration with SQ Motor Sport of Canada has teamed up to make the sport more accessible to budding motor racers.
The two entities recently brought in a quantity of 125cc automatic go-karts which was gobbled up by motor racing enthusiasts during a simple display yesterday, at Automotive Art on Charlotte and Cummings Streets.
Speaking with President of the club Vishok Persaud, he said that the venture was all part of increasing the popularity of the sport among Guyanese, but more importantly it will also provide newcomers to the sport with an opportunity to hone their skills at the newly acquired go-kart track which was recently concluded at the Club’s Headquarters.
“We are attempting to target a wider audience and to encourage them to participate in the sport,” Persaud told Kaieteur Sport.
Persaud disclosed that Caribbean champion Barbadian Stuart Maloney is due in Guyana on Saturday and he is to help promote this segment of the sport on the island. The cost of one of the kart is US$2,400, while the club has earmarked tomorrow as ‘Open Day’ where members of the public can come and participate in the activities, starting from 14:00 hrs. They can go and rent a kart and have fun.
Persaud also indicated that the official launching of the track is scheduled for later this month.
